Cheap Web Hosting Tactics Explained PDF Print E-mail
by ChrisChanning

Everyone appreciates cheaper services and products. For webmasters, they tend to appreciate cheap web hosts. But a cheap web host can be harder to find than one would think- so long as the webmaster cares about the quality of service that they are obtaining. Nevertheless, there are ways to find such hosts with several tactics.

It is common knowledge that the more money one shells out, the more disk space and bandwidth they will obtain. While this is usually said to be true, it isn't always necessary to pay more for an increased amount of resources. Mainstream hosts who have enough servers and bandwidth to allow for better plans will commonly pass on savings to consumers- so the first tip is to stick with the better known companies.

Sometimes it isn't about what one needs in a web host, so much as it is what they don't need from a host. Some hosting companies will offer different services, programs, and tools that veteran webmasters won't need. These often cost much more money in the long run, and are usually unnecessary. Other things such as the web hosting panel used can impact a bill- whereas cPanel will cost much more than a free web panel offered by a hosting company.

Although it is a little ironic, sometimes spending more money on a hosting plan will give a customer a better discount. Web hosting companies will charge based on amount of disk space and bandwidth allowed. Such limits are increased dramatically with bigger plans. The cost per megabyte, thus, is much cheaper when paying for a larger plan. This is usually the best option for medium to large websites.

Making a commitment to a webhost is also a great way to enjoy vast savings. Some webhosts will offer a yearly plan that is heavily discounted- but the drawback is that the webmaster is paying for a full year of service. If the funds permit, this is a very good idea since the price will commonly be discounted to the point where there will be a few free months of service.

Other cheap webhosts can be obtained, but at the expense of one's time or pride. One can put ads, sponsored links, and other types of advertisements on their website that link back to the webhost. This lowers the professionalism of the website, but then again, it saves the webmaster money. Other services allow webmasters to do things such as complete offers, forum posting, or even refer other members for a huge discount on their plans.

Closing Comments

Web hosts have a lot of fees, bills, and expenditures to abide by. But this doesn't mean that they can't offer cheap hosting to their customers! To get the best deals, always ask about referral programs, ad placement opportunities, and always opt for the service agreement each year if the funds are permitted. And in the end, opting for established web hosts is usually the best route to take.
